The city of Yuma owns an RC track. The local RC club (RCE of Yuma) manages the track and promotes events. Practice is every Wednesday night at 6:00 p.m. during the winter and 8:00 p.m. during the summer. Cost is $2 per driver. Races are on Saturday night at 6:00 p.m. during the winter and 8:00 p.m. in the summer. Cost is $10 for adults and $5 for kids. The drivers receive small awards for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place wins.
The best way to get into the sport is to come out and watch. The track is located at 4415 W. 18th Street. If it looks like something you’re interested in then check out the local hobby shop, Fast Eddies, located on 24th Street between Pacific Ave. and 3E off of 24th Street. The staff can answer all the questions you might have. After purchasing an RC come out to practice. Ask any of the guys running the timing system for help. They were all beginners at one point. The club meets the first Tuesday of every month at Brewers in the banquet room. The cost to join the club is $40, but with that you receive 4 free races and a T-shirt. By joining the club you will be able to receive special race deals, vote on issues concerning track design, etc.
Parents can even rent the track through the city for birthdays and other events. Just call (928) 373-5243.
