What to do in case of a PET emergency:

Your cat got hit by a car. Your Lab puppy devoured an entire rotisserie chicken out of the garbage. Your Doberman ate a sock. I have seen all of these scenarios (and more)… and it is so important to know what to do in case you have an emergency situation with your beloved pet.

Unfortunately, there is no Emergency Veterinary Clinic here in Yuma, so here is what to do:

  1. Establish service with a local Vet NOW (if you haven’t already). Almost every Vet office I spoke to said that they would be unable to treat your pet if you were not already an established client at their practice. So, take your pet for a check-up or wellness exam. It should only cost you about $40, but the office will have your name and information in the system and will be on-call should an emergency arise.**
  2. If you have an emergency, call your Vet at their regular number. If it is during normal business hours, they should be able to see you (they keep a few slots open for emergencies). If your call is placed after-hours (and you know these things always happen on a Sunday), you should still call the regular number. Your call will be answered by an answering service, who will either take a message or patch you through to the technician on-call. The technician will contact the Veterinarian and determine a course of action.
  3. If the Vet determines that your pet needs to be seen right away, s/he will meet you at the clinic for treatment. Please note that the price is steep for these after-hour visits. Your Vet should be able to give you an estimate (usually between $150-$250) but that price is only to be seen. You will still have to pay for the actual treatment.

Here is a list of Veterinary Clinics here in Yuma:

**Please note that the doctor at the Chaparrel Clinic would be willing to see your pet, even if you are not a client there. She will try to help any injured animal. However, she also works as a large-animal doctor so her availability is limited. The number is (928) 782-9219.

Free child care is provided during orientation. FCC has a huge lending library, with items such as high chairs, strollers, toys, paper, paint and more. For more information, call Susie at 928-269-3233.

Yuma moms speak out. Find out what other moms had to say about the CDC’s preschool program:

“We LOVE the CDC on base here in Yuma. Absolutely, positively LOVE it! We started sending our (now) 2 year old about 2 months ago, and her language acquisition has nearly quadrupled, and her social skills have really blossomed! Every day she astounds us with something new, and the facilities are always absolutely immaculate. The teachers combine classes after 5 pm (they are open 6 am to 6 pm), and the rooms are always SANITIZED, vacuumed, mopped, baby dolls sanitized, blocks, etc. The teachers are hands on, have a maximum ratio of 7 children to 1 teacher (for the toddler rooms), and are friendly, knowledgeable and willing to answer questions. They do developmental assessments and give you tips and tricks you can use at home. The only downside I can see is that you still pay the entire week’s amount (varies by income level) even if they take a holiday. (Which is about every time the banks/post office closes). That adds up after a while.”
